An Original 'Djinn' settee from Stanley Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey'
I am exited to present for sale an original double ‘Djinn’ settee by Olivier Mourgue with a singular provenance: it was one of the furniture pieces used on set in the lobby of the Hilton Hotel, Space Station 5 in the iconic film '2001: A Space Odyssey' by Stanley Kubrick (1969). Stanley Kubrick usually destroyed the props and furniture that comprised his film sets, not wishing for his unique directorial process to be demystified or diminished by the objects being used out of context. However, this double settee was one of the few pieces that remained intact after filming had been concluded. It was given to Kubrick’s long-term associate producer, Victor Lyndon, and from thence came to be in the ownership of its current custodian, by descent. It was one of three double Djinn settees used in the ‘Hilton Hotel in the Sky’ scene; the others visible in the scene were in fact a mirror image of these three. This chair is therefore the only chair from the set that remains in existence. For images and full information, please contact me by email.
